Nathan met Simba the therapy dog. First he tried to eat his ear. Next Nathan tried to walk toward him in the gait trainer. Simba was supposed to be the carrot, the motivator. Then Nathan became a little unsure of Simba. Simba licked him a couple of times and he wasn’t convinced Simba was the carrot we were all hoping for. We do know Nathan likes dogs because he loves Callie our friend Jan’s therapy dog. It’s all about finding the right carrot – the right thing to motivate Nathan. Sometimes it’s a dog, sometimes it’s his brother, sometimes it’s a new toy and almost always something new to chew. No matter the pace, we keep looking for motivators and moving forward.
